A Different School Year

Thank you for all your prayers! We are now starting the third week of school with great success! Our families understand the importance of keeping everybody safe, students as well as staff are all wearing masks to avoid the spread of COVID, the school even purchased plexiglass partitions for the students to take a mask break. Every morning, our teachers have been taking students’ temperatures before they leave their car. As soon as they enter the gym, they stop at one of the sanitation stations to clean their hands with hand sanitizer and then proceed to their classes. Since all the students have a set of books at home, they do not need to carry books anymore, so they take their backpacks to every class. Every teacher is sanitizing desks, chairs, door handles, and anything that can be of easy contact at the beginning of the day, between classes, and at the end of the day.

Last Wednesday was the first School Mass, as you guessed, we are social distancing and following the Diocese of Fort Worth protocol, if you are not familiar with it, we are required to wear masks, use hand sanitizer when we enter the church, skip a pew, have one students per kneeler, use hand sanitizer before communion, and maintaining social distance. To make sure we are keeping our students safe, our parish decided to close the church during our weekly School Mass. Just like Father Jack said during his homily last week: this year, we are all playing a different role in our daily lives, we all have a place, we all have a responsibility with each other. God has a plan, He put us here for a reason, we are all living this pandemic because we are supposed to be here at this time, so let’s celebrate our lives and be responsible with each other.

Our students, in-person and virtual students, are now back to a routine. Back to early mornings, new lessons, and homework, but happy to see their peers in a safe environment. Pretty soon they will start their outdoor learning with Mrs. Ruppel, she is making sure the soil, weather, seeds, compost, worms, etc. are in place to start gardening.

If you are interested in participating in the annual North Texas Giving Day, please send Mrs. Kelly a message to gather more information: tkelly@stjs.org. Thank you for your prayers and your support!
